Annual operational cost is provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Program (Illinois CMP). The buoy was built and first deployed by LimnoTech, Inc., in 2018. The startup cost for purchase and initial deployment was possible through a grant award to Illinois CMP and ISGS from NOAA, Office of Coastal Management. LimnoTech, Inc. continues to service, deploy, and retrieve the buoy annually though a cooperative effort with the ISGS and Illinois CMP.
