attribute NC_GLOBAL summary String This buoy is located 5 miles north of Point Betsie (MI) in northern Lake Michigan. The buoy is owned and maintained by the University of Michigan's Cooperative Institute for Great Lakes Research and deployed with the assistance of local stakeholders to enhance safety for area recreation, while providing valuable realtime observations for Great Lakes researchers and forecasters. Each year from about May 1 to November 1, this Sofar Smart Mooring will measure wave height and wave period, as well as temperature-at-depth information every 30 minutes, reporting these values once per hour.
