A two-point mooring system secures the buoy over sand and rock substrate in 20 m of water. https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/tabledap/obs_230 https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/tabledap/obs_230.graph Bark Point, WI Moored Buoy University of Minnesota-Duluth started deploying moored buoy BARK_PT in southwest Lake Superior near Bark Point, Wisconsin in April 2021. Bark Point is a region that has recently started to experience noticeable algae blooms and there was a desire to monitor the area for water quality. Waves, water temperatures at depth, water quality (including turbidity, dissolved oxygen, chl-a and BGA fluorescence), and basic meteorological data are also collected at this site. BARK_PT is in 50 meters of water. It is important to note the concentrations measured at this point DO NOT represent the average concentration in the entire cross section. This location is known to have a strong lateral concentration gradient. The purpose of the instrument is to provide an idea of when sediment is present in the water column and when it is not. Known as Cleveland Water’s Offshore buoy, it was originally deployed in 2010 through a USEPA Great Lakes Restorative Initiative grant administered by Great Lakes Observing System. The buoy is now maintained by Cleveland Water in partnership with Cleveland Water Alliance and LimnoTech. This buoy measures wind speed and direction, air and water temperature, relative humidity, wave direction, height and period. The CB-1500 coastal data buoy is secured by a two-point mooring system over a mud substrate in 13 meters of water. The buoy is equipped with a solar-powered weather station and surface and near-bottom water quality sensors that collect data every 30 min, as well as a cellular modem for real-time data communication. Nutrients and algal biomass deposited in the lower bay contribute to the formation of toxic algal blooms. These blooms can form and decay over short time scales and the environmental conditions under which blooms form in lower Green Bay are not well understood. The Green Bay East buoy provides real- time continuous monitoring of algal biomass and water quality conditions. Nutrients and algal biomass deposited in the lower bay contribute to the formation of toxic algal blooms. These blooms can form and decay over short time scales and the environmental conditions under which blooms form in lower Green Bay are not well understood. The Green Bay West buoy provides real- time continuous monitoring of algal biomass and water quality conditions. The buoy consists of a yellow six foot diameter, dense foam float with a mast that extends approximately nine feet (~3 m) above the water surface. The buoy consists of a yellow six foot diameter, dense foam float with a mast that extends approximately nine feet (~3 m) above the water surface. Temperature chains hang from the buoy extending from the surface to the lake bottom with temperature probes spaced at one meter (~3 ft) intervals. The buoy includes meteorological instruments to measure air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, and solar radiation. A water quality datasonde is deployed near the surface from the Oswego buoy. The data sonde measures water temperature, specific conductivity, turbidity and chlorophyll-a. The overwinter monitoring system consists of instrumentation (T-String, wave and water current meter) and data logger deployed on the bottom of Lake Ontario, approximately 1.75 miles off the shore of Oswego, NY in 22 m of water.  At the lake's surface, a cellular modem antenna is installed on a modified winter buoy (winter stick) to provide telemetry to shore. A temperature string with sensors at one meter intervals measure water temperature from the surface to 6 m. The buoy provides real time wind and wave information, as well as temperature through the water column. The data helps make on-water recreation safer, provides anglers with key water temperature information, and improves modeling and forecasting. Located off Two Rivers, WI, the buoy is active from approximately May 1 to November 1 each year.
