It is owned and maintained by the Great Lakes Research Center at Michigan Technological University and deployed with assistance of local stakeholders to enhance safety for area recreation, while providing valuable real-time observations for Great Lakes researchers and forecasters. The station is deployed approximately May 1 through November 1.
