The weather station was originally deployed on several metocean buoys across the Great Lakes with support from the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS). Now living shoreside, the station is affixed to a buoy hull donated by OTT Hydromet and hosted in partnership with Michigan Tech’s Great Lakes Research Center. Designed to share real-time weather data with the public, the station also serves as an approachable, hands-on learning tool in one of Hancock’s most active waterfront areas.
