In addition to standard meteorological measurements, the station has been expanded to include an in situ water quality sonde. This system measures critical parameters within the highly dynamic Portage Waterway, including temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and other biogeochemical indicators. The site is uniquely positioned within a bidirectional flow regime, where water exchange with Lake Superior can occur from both the north and the south entries depending on seiche activity, wind forcing, and broader lake conditions. Together, these observations provide a valuable, co-located atmospheric and aquatic dataset, supporting research on air–water interactions, circulation dynamics, and water quality variability in a complex and understudied coastal system.\nFunding for the station’s refurbishment and long-term operation is provided by GLOS.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\ntime (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nair_pressure (Pa)\nair_temperature (K)\nbattery_voltage (V)\nchlorophyll_fluorescence (RFU)\nfluorescent_dissolved_organic_matter (RFU)\nfractional_saturation_of_oxygen_in_sea_water (Dissolved oxygen saturation, 1)\nlwe_precipitation_rate (m s-1)\nmass_concentration_of_chlorophyll_in_sea_water (Chlorophyll concentration, kg m-3)\nmass_concentration_of_oxygen_in_sea_water (Dissolved oxygen, kg m-3)\nphycocyanin_fluorescence (RFU)\nrelative_humidity (1)\nsea_water_electrical_conductivity (Conductivity, S m-1)\nsea_water_electrical_conductivity_at_reference_temperature (Specific Conductivity, Unknown)\n... Annual operational cost is provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Coastal Management Program (Illinois CMP). The buoy was built and first deployed by LimnoTech, Inc., in 2018. The startup cost for purchase and initial deployment was possible through a grant award to Illinois CMP and ISGS from NOAA, Office of Coastal Management. LimnoTech, Inc. continues to service, deploy, and retrieve the buoy annually though a cooperative effort with the ISGS and Illinois CMP.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\ntime (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nair_pressure (Pa)\nair_pressure_at_mean_sea_level (Pa)\nair_temperature (K)\nbattery_voltage (V)\nsea_surface_temperature (Water temp at depth, K)\nsea_surface_wave_from_direction (Wave direction (from), degree)\nsea_surface_wave_maximum_height (Maximum wave height, m)\nsea_surface_wave_maximum_period (s)\nsea_surface_wave_mean_height_of_highest_tenth (m)\nsea_surface_wave_mean_period (Mean wave period, s)\nsea_surface_wave_period_at_variance_spectral_density_maximum (Dominant wave period, s)\nsea_surface_wave_significant_height (Significant wave height, m)\nsea_surface_wave_significant_period (s)\nwind_from_direction (Wind direction (from), degree)\nwind_speed (m s-1)\nwind_speed_of_gust (Wind Gust Speed, m s-1)\nplatform\n https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/metadata/fgdc/xml/obs_87_latest_fgdc.xml https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/metadata/iso19115/xml/obs_87_latest_iso19115.xml https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/info/obs_87_latest/index.htmlTable https://limno.io/station/45186/ (external link) https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/rss/obs_87_latest.rss https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/subscriptions/add.html?datasetID=obs_87_latest&showErrors=false&email= University of Illinois - Illinois State Geological Survey obs_87_latest
