It is located 2 nautical miles SSW of Buffalo, New York, in the Eastern Basin of Lake Erie in approximately 40 feet of water. This buoy provides real-time wind, water, and wave conditions that are useful for commercial and recreational navigation. It also connects the general public to the water and helps them make safe decisions. Other benefits include the collection of quantifiable data related to coastal resiliency, meteorology, and ecological studies. We would like to acknowledge the Niagara River Greenway Commission for financial support to purchase and operate this buoy.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\ntime (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nair_pressure_at_mean_sea_level (Pa)\nair_temperature (K)\nchlorophyll_fluorescence (Unknown)\nfractional_saturation_of_oxygen_in_sea_water (Dissolved oxygen saturation, 1)\nmass_concentration_of_chlorophyll_in_sea_water (Chlorophyll concentration, kg m-3)\nmass_concentration_of_oxygen_in_sea_water (Dissolved oxygen, kg m-3)\nphycocyanin_concentration (ug L-1)\nphycocyanin_fluorescence (Unknown)\nrelative_humidity (1)\nsea_surface_temperature_1 (K)\nsea_surface_wave_from_direction (Wave direction (from), degree)\nsea_surface_wave_from_direction_at_variance_spectral_density_maximum (Dominant wave direction (from), degree)\nsea_surface_wave_mean_height_of_highest_tenth (Mean wave height of highest tenth, m)\nsea_surface_wave_period_at_variance_spectral_density_maximum (Dominant wave period, s)\nsea_surface_wave_significant_height (Significant wave height, m)\nsea_surface_wave_significant_period (s)\nsea_water_specific_conductivity (Specific conductivity, Unknown)\n... In addition to standard meteorological measurements, the station has been expanded to include an in situ water quality sonde. This system measures critical parameters within the highly dynamic Portage Waterway, including temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and other biogeochemical indicators. The site is uniquely positioned within a bidirectional flow regime, where water exchange with Lake Superior can occur from both the north and the south entries depending on seiche activity, wind forcing, and broader lake conditions. Together, these observations provide a valuable, co-located atmospheric and aquatic dataset, supporting research on air–water interactions, circulation dynamics, and water quality variability in a complex and understudied coastal system.\nFunding for the station’s refurbishment and long-term operation is provided by GLOS.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\ntime (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nair_pressure (Pa)\nair_temperature (K)\nbattery_voltage (V)\nchlorophyll_fluorescence (RFU)\nfluorescent_dissolved_organic_matter (RFU)\nfractional_saturation_of_oxygen_in_sea_water (Dissolved oxygen saturation, 1)\nlwe_precipitation_rate (m s-1)\nmass_concentration_of_chlorophyll_in_sea_water (Chlorophyll concentration, kg m-3)\nmass_concentration_of_oxygen_in_sea_water (Dissolved oxygen, kg m-3)\nphycocyanin_fluorescence (RFU)\nrelative_humidity (1)\nsea_water_electrical_conductivity (Conductivity, S m-1)\nsea_water_electrical_conductivity_at_reference_temperature (Specific Conductivity, Unknown)\n... The buoy is outfitted with a meterological station that measures air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, and solar radiation. A temperature string with sensors at one meter intervals measure water temperature from the surface to 6 m. A YSI 6600 data sonde with temperature, specific conductivity, and turbidity is positioned ~1 m below the surface. A YSI 6600 data sonde with temperature, specific conductivity, and turbidity sensors is positioned ~1 m below the surface. An ADCP is deployed on the bottom ~30 m horizontal distance from the surface buoy. The ADCP (Nortek AWAC) measures water velocity and wave height and direction. These data are retrieved by a shore station every 15 to 30 minutes.\n\ncdm_data_type = TimeSeries\nVARIABLES:\ntime (seconds since 1970-01-01T00:00:00Z)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nair_pressure (Pa)\nair_pressure_at_mean_sea_level (Pa)\nair_temperature (K)\nrelative_humidity (1)\nsea_surface_wave_from_direction (degree)\nsea_surface_wave_maximum_height (m)\nsea_surface_wave_mean_period (s)\nsea_surface_wave_period_at_variance_spectral_density_maximum (s)\nsea_surface_wave_significant_height (m)\nsea_water_electrical_conductivity (S m-1)\nsea_surface_temperature (Water temp at depth, K)\nsea_water_turbidity (Turbidity, 1)\nsea_water_turbidity_1 (sea_water_turbidity, 1)\nsea_water_turbidity_2 (sea_water_turbidity, 1)\nsurface_downwelling_shortwave_flux_in_air (Incident solar radiation (downwelling, shortwave), W m-2)\nwind_from_direction (Wind direction (from), degree)\nwind_speed (m s-1)\nwind_speed_of_gust (Wind Gust Speed, m s-1)\nplatform\n | https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/metadata/fgdc/xml/obs_75_latest_fgdc.xml | https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/metadata/iso19115/xml/obs_75_latest_iso19115.xml | https://seagull-erddap.glos.org/erddap/info/obs_75_latest/index.htmlTable | http://upstatefreshwater.org/NRT-Data/Lake-Ontario-Data/lake-ontario-data.html
